Baltimore

A bit of a cruisey day today in Baltimore. Went and had a look at the War Museum and Phoenix Shot Tower along the historical walk which were great. So much history and the Shot Tower was built in 1828 from bricks,  stands 215 feet tall and they used to make buckshot for shotguns used in hunting. Molten lead was dropped from the top of the tower through a sieve like device and as it fell it formed perfect round balls. Water at the bottom caught and cooled  the lead! Pretty amazing. We then headed to into an air cond bar for a quiet ale and played a couple of games of Jenga. Popped into The Hard Rock Cafe on the water for lunch as its really hot here today, around 35deg and so humid,  so heading indoors is a better option. Had another huge lunch, a famous Cobb salad and rack of ribs, then headed out to grab a few supplies before the drive into Washington to see a baseball game between the Washington Nationals and New York Mets. Checking all the schedules, we miss out on all games by a day or so everywhere we've been or are going, so thought we'd just drive the 40 minutes into Washington, even though we're going to be staying there in a week or so's time. Also had to grab another "best in the world crab cake" for supper, and have to say they are superb here too!
Well, the game was pretty good, to say the least! Really long though, so you certainly get your monies worth as the game lasted 3 1/2 hours! The receptionist at our hotel organised great seats for us so we were lucky. The fans are so devoted, for sure, most of them wearing shirts with the most popular pitcher or hitters name! The atmosphere was pretty good and it looked like the Nationals were going to bring it home, but the Mets just won in the 2nd last innings! Was a great night!
Off to Atlantic City this morning for 3 nights, so hopefully being closer to the ocean, we may get some cool breezes - let's hope so!

  1. Hi Deb The trip looks amazing. I haven't been on for a few days but put a couple of late comments on. You are doing such a great job with the photos and the comments. Glad the boys had a good Fathers Day, we spent it at the beach with our kids and grandkids, went and saw Dad - didn't take a guiness however so bit of spinning going on! The trip makes me want to go and see America and it's not really a place I've ever been interested in so you are doing a great job of selling it! I don't understand why Jonny doesn't want to bring lots of chocolate home, thought he was an avid fan! I'm off to Cairns today for 2 days so may not be back on the blog til Saturday so have a great time. Love T & G xx

  2. What a fun day at the ball game! Love reading about it and seeing the photos. You say today was an easy day but you seemed to fit lots in, well done. Hope the weather cools down for you soon, it doesn't seem to have affected your travel plans so keep plodding along and stay out of the Atlantic City casinos!!?? Love Pam and Vernon
